New sinkhole on Eglinton Ave W

Toronto has only two seasons: winter and construction. Now with the HOV controversy (where, again, Toronto's bad boy Rob Ford made headlines telling us that he breaks the law), a huge sinkhole on Eglinton Ave West is definitely not helping.

Eglinton-sinkholeMarvel at its size!

  • A sinkhole has partially closed Eglinton Avenue West between Keele Street and Richardson Avenue.
  • One lane is closed in each direction after the nearly 20-foot hole was spotted early Tuesday morning.
  • It appears to be a water main issue and Toronto Water is now investigating, Metrolinx spokesperson Anne Marie Aikins told CityNews.
  • This will not affect any work being done in the area and is an isolated incident, she added.
  • It’s the second big headache for drivers in this area this year.
  • In March, a portion of Eglinton also near Keele and Richardson was closed due to an unstable tunnel at the Eglinton LRT construction site.
  • In that case, water and soil had leaked into a passage way connecting two tunnels for the Metrolinx construction project.

Water quality tests data shows elevated lead levels in Toronto homes | Toronto Star

Councillor Karen Stintz (Ward 16, Eglinton-Lawrence), a mayoral candidate whose riding had an 18-per-cent failure rate on nearly 1,000 tests, said financial incentives for homeowners who want to replace their lead pipes is worth consideration. “If that’s the reason people aren’t replacing the pipes, then I think we have an obligation to look at that,” she said. “People expect that when they turn on their taps, the water is safe to drink. It’s a reasonable expectation and one we need to make sure we deliver on.”

Doug Ford defends comments about new ‘nightmare’ youth group home in Toronto | National Post

The city councillor brother of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford did not back down Sunday from comments about a home for developmentally disabled youth in his ward, saying it is a “nightmare” for the neighbourhood. Coun. Doug Ford told TV station CP24 that his “heart goes out” to families with autistic children, but he said this issue is about kids in the residential home who have “violent tendencies.” “I’ve been a Rotarian for 25 years helping kids with challenges, but you can’t disrupt the neighbourhood like that,” Ford said. .
