Prevention and survival

We have two stories happening this week in the past couple of days. First is about preventing crime by discovering a small arsenal and arresting a suspect, while the second involves the survival of a stabbing victim.

imageThe photo is from the second story. In the first, officers arrested some idiot after he threatened them with a gun.

An 18-year-old male is facing a dozen charges after being found in the Jane and Finch area allegedly carrying drugs and a loaded gun.

On Monday at around 6:30 p.m., officers responded to a call about a community concern near the area of Jane Street and Turf Grassway.

As the officers were patrolling the hallway of a building in the area, they smelled marijuana and started to investigate a group of men nearby.

Police allege one of the men assaulted an officer during the investigation.

At some point, the officer attempted to make an arrest and a struggle ensued.

Police said one of the men then reached into a bag he was carrying and pulled out a firearm.

Officers were able to knock the gun from the man’s hand and made an arrest.

No one was seriously injured in the incident.

Toronto resident Rodrigues Sendia is facing a dozen charges, including carrying a concealed weapon, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, assaulting a peace officer and possession of a weapon obtained by crime.

He was scheduled to make an appearance in court this morning.

Following the arrest, officers continued to search the building. It was there that they located and seized another firearm – a loaded Mosserg 715T .22 calibre rifle.

Police said the firearm appears unrelated to the earlier arrest.

It is always great to hear about any victim of a crime surviving (CBC).

A man in his 20s was rushed to a trauma centre in life-threatening condition after a stabbing in the Downsview area, Toronto paramedics said. Police later said the man is expected to survive.

Toronto police were called to Neames Crescent and Chalkfarm Drive, in the Jane and Wilson area, around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday following reports of a stabbing.

They located a man with serious injuries, and he was transported to hospital.

There was no immediate word on a suspect, police said.

Water quality tests data shows elevated lead levels in Toronto homes | Toronto Star

Councillor Karen Stintz (Ward 16, Eglinton-Lawrence), a mayoral candidate whose riding had an 18-per-cent failure rate on nearly 1,000 tests, said financial incentives for homeowners who want to replace their lead pipes is worth consideration. “If that’s the reason people aren’t replacing the pipes, then I think we have an obligation to look at that,” she said. “People expect that when they turn on their taps, the water is safe to drink. It’s a reasonable expectation and one we need to make sure we deliver on.”

Doug Ford defends comments about new ‘nightmare’ youth group home in Toronto | National Post

The city councillor brother of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford did not back down Sunday from comments about a home for developmentally disabled youth in his ward, saying it is a “nightmare” for the neighbourhood. Coun. Doug Ford told TV station CP24 that his “heart goes out” to families with autistic children, but he said this issue is about kids in the residential home who have “violent tendencies.” “I’ve been a Rotarian for 25 years helping kids with challenges, but you can’t disrupt the neighbourhood like that,” Ford said. .
